Eliecer Lazo Creation Scholarship Awarded in Matanzas.

Twenty-seven years after its creation, the Eliecer Lazo award is reaffirmed as a means to are some of the fundamental objectives of the contest organized by the AHS in the Matanzas territory.

 

 

In order to promote and give opportunities and spaces to the youngest Cuban writers, the Eliecer Lazo Creation Scholarship, sponsored by the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS) and the Provincial Book Center in Matanzas, will be awarded this Friday, starting at 10:00 am.

The selection was made by a jury composed of writer, essayist, translator and critic Laura Ruiz Montes, poet Luis Lexander Pita and poet, editor and journalist Náthaly Hernández Chávez, who will also offer a reading of their poetry.

The first Eliecer Lazo contest was held in 1997. At the beginning it only awarded prizes in the Poetry section, but due to the proliferation of storytellers and journalists interested in the contest, the call was extended to the categories of Short Story and Chronicle.

 

 

Twenty-seven years after its creation, the Eliecer Lazo Award is reaffirmed as a means to achieve some of the fundamental objectives of the contest organized by the AHS in the territory of Matanzas; it also seeks to consolidate the consumption of good young literature at a time when time sometimes seems short to enjoy the pleasure of reading.

Eliécer Lazo (1959-1996) was a poet from Matanzas, author of Noticias del ausente, which was published posthumously by Vigía Editions.
