Food self-sufficiency.
The achievement of food self-sufficiency is more than a utopia, it needs to become a reality, in Matanzas and in all of Cuba.
The achievement of food self-sufficiency, more than a utopia, needs to become a reality in Matanzas and throughout Cuba.
As we have stated in previous works, there are considerable amounts of idle land that we need to cultivate and thus lower the prices of food and vegetables, which in many cases are subject to the designs of resellers.
Products such as peppers, carrots, garlic, onions, rice, tomatoes, must be purchased by the people today, juggling to serve the family table, because prices are unattainable for most.
The raising of free-range animals that guarantee the supply of proteins is an imperative.
We can no longer wait for the chicken to «come from outside» and in its transportation from Havana to the cities and municipalities multiply the selling price, an issue to which the Ministry of Finance and Prices must dedicate itself, as explained in a recent meeting with journalists. This Ministry must take action on the matter, review cost sheets and put things in their place, since this particular business has become «juicy» for its actors, at the expense of the working people.
These people cannot continue waiting for someone to decide one day to do what is rightfully theirs.
The Agricultural Production, Credit and Service Cooperatives, the Basic Units and other entities must fulfill their objective plans, diversify their productions in reality, guarantee the sustenance of their workers, their families and with this, food self-sufficiency in the thirteen municipalities of Matanzas.
