Governing Council in Matanzas with an eye on crime and illegalities.

Consejo de Gobierno en Matanzas con la mira en el delito y las ilegalidades

With the presence of the highest authorities of the province of Matanzas, headed by Susely Morfa González, first secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, and the governor of the territory, Mario Sabines Lorenzo, the Council of Government was held on Wednesday, mainly focused on the behavior of crimes and illegalities in the territory, as well as the challenges for the rescue of rural areas.

During the session, it was learned that during the past year 2023, the municipalities of Ciénaga de Zapata, Jovellanos, Matanzas and Pedro Betancourt reduced crimes affecting the state sector. It should also be noted that in the province, in general, criminal activity in the state sector increased by eight percent with respect to 2022.

In view of the increase of crimes and illegalities in some municipalities of the province, the analysis and agreements of the members of the Council were aimed at taking measures aimed at strengthening the working groups, exercising greater control over state assets and changing, temporarily, the prevention plans according to the incidences detected along the way.

«Today 60 percent of those who commit crimes are young people. So this just shows us the hard work that needs to be done from the communities, from the crime prevention systems themselves in the municipalities. To see what our young people are doing, whether they are involved in studying or working,» commented Amaro Cabrera Calero, president of the People’s Provincial Court in Matanzas.

With the aim of contributing to the reduction of these criminal acts, starting in February, crime prevention workshops will be held, beginning in the territories with the highest incidence and then extending it to the rest as a preventive measure.
