Radio 26 – Matanzas, Cuba

Emisora provincial de Matanzas, Cuba, La Radio de tu Corazón

Habana Titiritera, figures among cobblestones, a space for the theater in Matanzas.

Some 23 shows by national and foreign groups are included in the program of the fourth edition of the Havana Puppetry Day, figures among cobblestones, which from today until August 6th will take place in the capital.

The show features works by groups from Havana, Artemisa, Cienfuegos, Villa Clara, Granma and Matanzas, as well as several schools related to the puppetry art in the country and Mexico.

Historia de burros and Se durmió en los laureles, classics in the repertoire of Teatro Papalote, will be the proposals of the group directed by National Theater Award winner Rene Fernandez Santana, on the upcoming day.

Donkey Story, one of the master’s most performed plays since it was premiered in Sweden in 1994 by Rubén Darío Salazar, serves as a reference for the education of several generations.

The staging becomes a test for the actors who take it on because of the diversity of puppetry techniques on which it is based, the interrelationship it establishes with the audience and the sympathy it awakens.

Se durmió en los laureles is also one of Papalote’s emblematic works. Premiered in the 1990s under the title Ikú and Elegguá, it stars two clown puppeteers who recreate and alternate their performances between pranks, mockery and tricks.

From Matanzas, Teatro El Mirón Cubano is also preparing to participate in the event. The group directed by Rocío Rodríguez Fernández included its Mirabella.

Meanwhile, the Carucha Camejo Teaching Unit of Teatro de Las Estaciones will present its graduation show Adonde van los ríos.

Teatro Tentempié, led by actress and announcer Farah Madrigal, will also be present in the program, as an extension at Tteatro Sauto. The Matanzas cultural center will host its most recent premiere, Carmen Flor de los recuerdos, on Thursday, August 3rd, at 3:00 in the afternoon.

The fourth edition of the Habana Titiritera, figuras entre adoquines (Havana Puppetry, figures among cobblestones) will be dedicated to the teaching of puppetry in Cuba. The Timonel Award, granted by Teatro La Proa and the Havana Theater Center, will be given to a personality and an artistic group whose trajectory has been outstanding in the teaching and work of puppetry.

The program includes workshops for children, acting, puppet and paper puppet construction, theoretical sessions for the exchange of experiences on puppetry in Cuba and the world with panels, round tables, lectures and screenings of international shows, as well as puppetry performances for children, young people and adults.
