Representatives of the Community of Haitian Descendants and Friends of the Caribbean in Matanzas are participating in the Kriba Kreyól 2024 National Festival, from today until next Saturday, at the Julián del Casal Cultural Center, in Havana.
The president of the community, Irene Batista Felix, will discuss the research «Presence of Haitian culture in Matanzas», in which she exposes the importance of Caribbean women in the formation of the Cuban idiosyncrasy and the strength of mothers and grandmothers, coming from the brother country in the forging of a home that responds to ethical values in their condition as Cubans.
The theoretical work is the result of a joint effort with the Office of the Curator of Matanzas, the UNEAC and the Bonifacio Byrne House of Culture. This community, made up of more than 40 members, with a family approach, develops diverse cultural actions that have an impact on the preservation of its traditions and its relationship with Matanzas art.
Similarly, the twenty papers to be presented at the theoretical event highlight the current interest of the community of Haitian descendants to learn Creole, its songs and music, as well as to promote handicrafts and culinary manifestations, according to Hilario Batista Félix, president of the Bannzil Kreyòl Kriba sociocultural project.
Representatives of the Haitian communities of the provinces of Ciego de Avila, Guantanamo, Havana and Holguin, together with Dulce Maria Huergo, president of the Cuban UNESCO commission and Consuelo Doris, head of these communities in the country, also took part.
