The province of Matanzas cannot lower the perception of risk in the face of the Idalia hydrometeorological phenomenon, said Susely Morfa, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in the province.

Although the forecast models do not show a direct affectation in the western province, specialists observe the movement of this phenomenon that if it inclines to the west, it would affect the northern coast of Matanzas.

In view of this situation, the territory is preparing for heavy rains, a decisive step to minimize possible damages.

Up to this minute, accumulated rainfall of 69 millimeters has been reported and the dams remain the same, and work is being carried out in the drainages of Ojo de Agua, Reverbero, Sabanilla and Jovellanos. Work is also being carried out in the lower areas of the city of Matanzas, where cleaning and unblocking actions are being carried out.

It was also reported that today 31 tons of agricultural products were stockpiled and will be sent to the retail network and the agencies that will receive them.

In the Health area, 56 pregnant women and 120 children under one year of age living in remote areas were evacuated. The system also has 96 generators and more than 500 beds available.

In the area of communications, the four portable stations and the amateur radio network were activated. In addition, the information flows and the operation of the generators were verified.

The first secretary called for all means to be deployed for this situation and to protect human lives and economic resources in the first place.
