Reports on bread production in Cuba.

We share information published on the Caribbean Channel of Cuban Television about the unstable situation with the production of bread for the basic food basket.

In the last few days there has been a notable instability in the production of bread for the basic food basket. In a dialogue with executives of the Ministry of Food Industry, we learned that the main cause has been the low coverage of wheat flour in the country.

Today, a ship from Canada arrived at the port of Havana with 21 thousand tons of wheat, which translates into a coverage of 12 days for bread. Since this afternoon, the mills in Havana began processing the wheat to take the flour to each of the provinces.

This week, another ship with 1200 tons of flour should arrive at the port of Santiago de Cuba, which will allow greater stability in the eastern part of the country. Cuba has contracted other wheat arrivals, to be carried out after June 12. The contracted amount assures the flour for the bread basket for the rest of the month.

Notwithstanding these arrivals, this Sunday the production of the food was affected in several territories, and it will also occur this Monday. With the arrival of the flour that is processed in the industries of the capital, the situation should be more favorable as from Tuesday.
