Radio 26 – Matanzas, Cuba

Emisora provincial de Matanzas, Cuba, La Radio de tu Corazón

Roberto’s cure (+audio and photos).

Roberto Alfonso de Armas, retired from Bellotex, told the radio that, although the challenge seemed great, little by little he was arranging a space that, although small, is still beautiful and productive.

When Roberto learned that the little piece of land where he worked was going to be transferred to another company, he felt as if something was breaking inside him.

When you reach a certain age, you get excited about little things and you put all your efforts not so much in what pays but in what makes you happy.

That is why, from his armchair, he thought that if he stopped sowing he would die, so he moved the sowing to another piece of land nearby and started again from scratch.

For several years Roberto has been working in the area, which is the patrimony of the Textile Company «Eddio Teijiero», Bellotex, in Matanzas, and the productions were used to prepare food for the entity’s canteen.

Note that his pride was his crops located right on the corner of the Jarcia. Such a busy spot due to its proximity to the terminal that this 73 year old man was filled with vanity because of so many compliments from passers-by.

Now it is still there, a little further back, but there are those who are attracted by that seedbed of leek garlic and the green color that dominates the entrance. The pride continues and the work increased.

In this way, yuccas, leek garlic, beans, spinach and other seasonal vegetables appear in beds that are barely 10 meters long.

From there, the canteens of nearby entities and the Carlos Verdugo polyclinic receive benefits.
Roberto has found the cure for his years. He uses every piece of land for a common good: food sovereignty and is part of a movement that since 2020 has been committed to sowing every bit of land.
