The recovery of the salt harvester is one of the most important maintenance tasks for the upcoming salt harvest, scheduled for April and May of this year, if the important equipment is brought to full capacity.
«It is an arduous task to start up in this first quarter an old machine, dating back to the 60’s, and to be able to satisfy a production that ranges from five thousand to seven thousand tons», said Carlos del Pino, general secretary of the union section of the Salt Matanzas Base Business Unit (UEB), located in the Northeast of the Martí municipality.
«The task is in the hands of the innovators of the maintenance workshop to be able to recover it and also improve other essential tools in the processes», added Del Pino, while speaking at a meeting of union leaders of entities of the Ministry of Energy and Mines.
He referred to the poor conditions of the salt field, affected by climatic factors and dependent on a lot of lace and wood to get it out of that state. However, there, he pointed out, they are not sitting on their hands. Alternatives are being applied, such as the concentration of the production area in about four crystallizers (spaces where the salt is made), in order to reach seven thousand tons.
Last year «we did not meet the fundamental economic indicators, but we have a collective with a great sense of belonging, knowledge, skills and stability, and that puts us in very good conditions to recover a salt mine like this one, located in a geographical area of difficult access, and a source of employment for local people».
With an installed capacity of more than 80 thousand tons, the technological decadence greatly limits the increase of a production destined mainly for organisms (social consumption) and other manufactures for animal consumption.
He announced the good news of the proceedings in process to legalize in the office of Mineral Resources the extraction and exploitation of the medicinal mud for its later commercialization.
