Sugar cane harvest in Matanzas: «the wit sounds good» (+photos).

In spite of the setbacks, the central Jesús Sablón Moreno, Rabí, sounds different. That is to say, the wit is in a good mood and sounds even.
The smoke from the chimney of the Jesús Rabí sugar mill, in this southern municipality, indicates not only that there is an industry that started milling, but also that months of repairs and difficulties are flowing victoriously through the tower of the mill, the only one that will assume the production of sugar this year in the province.
«They were complex months in the repairs, but with high commitment and motivation of the workers of the industry, of all the workers in general sense of the sugar structure,» declared the first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in Matanzas, Mario Sabines Lorenzo.
«A great intervention was made in the boilers, which we had not achieved in previous years. That guarantees us a little more reliability and the mills were also very well repaired. In the middle of that we had an accident there when a vessel fell, we had to replace it, the central one has capacity, and we reconnected the other five vessels».
Despite the setbacks, the central Jesús Sablón Moreno, Rabí, sounds different. Quality specialist Alejandro San Martín Hernández from the laboratory defines the indicators in the permissible range.
«So far the cane, the raw material that is entering the industry, has good parameters. We are in an optimal season, the best months for this are January, February and March. We have to take advantage of them and try to extract as much sugar as possible from the cane.»
Although the sugar production plan is 16 thousand tons in 88 days of harvest with a guarantee of more than 242 thousand tons of sugar cane, its director, Jorge Luis Breijo, assures that if the rhythm is maintained, this figure can be surpassed.
«The first thing we did was to carry out a honeydew harvest to test the mill and adjust it. At the moment it is adjusted, we have our first day of harvest, we have already seen the sugar. In other words, the mill is in a good state of mind and it sounds even. In other words, we can have a good harvest in spite of the lack of resources we have in the country. The Jesús Rabí sugar company can deliver. We started milling well, we had a situation with an engine of a first mill, normal, of a start-up.
«That mill opened up and we had to change it. We had a problem with a variable frequency drive back here, lack of knowledge led us to change the motor and in the end the motor was not the faulty one, but the variable speed drive. Ingenuity grinds the daily plan and more. The only thing we have left to put in the standard are the ferromagnetic particles, characteristic of this time».
In the middle of this process is the work of the Empresa de Servicios de la Agroindustria Azucarera, Esazúcar Matanzas, which guarantees the feeding of the workers immersed in the 2024-2025 harvest, to which its director, Jorge Cabrera, referred.
«As every year we are immersed in producing more in our farm and the processing centers since almost everything we produce goes to the canteen supplies and sales to the workers».
In this harvest, sugar production is assumed by Empresa Agroindustrial Azucarera Jesús Sablón and the rest is incorporated with derivatives. In the midst of a complex economic scenario, production means guaranteeing the basic food basket and substituting imports in a country with a sugar tradition.
