The development of tourism and the efficient use of energy resources are among the priority objectives of the Cuban State’s plan to combat climate change, known as Tarea Vida (Task Life).
The success of these objectives depends, to a great extent, on the socio-economic progress of the Antillean Island and the protection of terrestrial and marine-coastal ecosystems.

In Matanzas, based on the commitment of the government, scientific institutions, as well as productive and service entities, it is possible to speak of a tourist activity -especially in Varadero, the largest tourist pole in the country-, with an investment program that has led to energy savings without sacrificing comfort in the hotel sector.
An example of this is the use of state-of-the-art technology, the replacement of the different lighting systems with LED lamps and even with presence sensors programmed to turn on automatically upon detecting changes in objects and remain on for the pre-established time and the use of means to measure efficiency parameters in equipment that runs on electricity. A whole process of renovation and control in which the Office for the Rational Use of Energy (ONURE) is directly involved.
The improvement of the energy management system allows them to regulate, diagnose, evaluate and train in the rational use of the nation’s energy resources.
