The art-books of Ediciones Vigía at the 32nd Matanzas Book Fair.
The 32nd Matanzas Book Fair will be a promising one for Ediciones Vigía, because as of April 7, with the beginning of the fair’s activities, a journey that will last until April 25th will begin to give way to the celebrations for the 40th anniversary of the institution, which will be celebrated in 2025.
This publishing house from Matanzas has the gift of knowing how to combine literature with art, through works of exquisite format, conceived in the 80’s of the last century by poets Rolando Estévez Jordán, National Book Design Award and Alfredo Zaldívar, National Publishing Award.
Its director for more than two decades, Agustina Ponce Valdés, explains the details of what will take place:
«We are going to dedicate this 32nd edition of the Fair to the figure of Rolando Estévez Jordán. He is the founder of the visuality of the publishing house.
«What is appreciated of Vigía in the world is above all for his pen: his drawings and designs marked this seal. Therefore, we will open on the 7th at 11:00 a.m., with a large exhibition of the most important books he designed and the performance of theatrical artists who will reconstruct the image of the important intellectual from Matanzas. From then on, until April 25th, we will be paying tribute to him in various ways.»
As for the specific activities during the Book Fair he pointed out:
«That same day 7th, at 2:00 in the afternoon, the space La Isla de los Poetas will be developed, dedicated to the women poets of Palestine, with the presentation of the book: Los más fieles difuntos, by Dimarys Águila.
«For Friday 8th we propose, at 11:00 a.m., the space Arte Joven, with the promotion of Palabras de canje, by Erián Peña Pupo and the reading of poems by the author.
«And at 2:00, we will be releasing the plaquette Asteroide para las estaciones, by José Manuel Espino, inspired by Teatro de Las Estaciones, a special event, as it will be our tribute to the figure and the institution to whom we have dedicated the Fair in Matanzas. It will be a new, unknown book, our main novelty in this Matanzas Fair.
«The morning of Saturday 9 will be dedicated to the poetry of Carilda Oliver Labra, with the presentation of the book Decían, together with the verses of Raidel Hernández, who will read poems of his authorship.
«And the afternoon will be dedicated to Cultural Journalism. We will promote the book Arte libros: dos universos, by Karina Pino-Santos and there will be live interviews with writers, designers, musicians and artists from Matanzas by journalist Yenli Lemus. It will be combined with a plastic action through live monotypes by artist Adrián Gómez Sancho.»
As for Sunday 10, Ediciones Vigía will close its participation in the 32nd International Book Fair in Matanzas with the plastic-literary workshop Barquitos del San Juan and the awarding of the contest Mi Carta a la Ciudad (My Letter to the City).
