Varadero’s oldest hotel celebrated «93 years of age».

On October 7th, the Club Kawama Hotel, the oldest hotel in this beach resort in the province of Matanzas, celebrated its 93rd birthday with the major gift of continuing to be a favorite among clients who are loyal to an authentically Cuban product.

Gran Caribe’s delegate in Varadero, Ismary Hernández Pérez, urged managers and employees to maintain the excellent service that characterizes them, a performance highly praised by guests from different latitudes, including domestic tourists.

With 336 rooms and guests from Belarus, Slovakia, Canada and domestic tourism, the Kawama has a 63 percent occupancy rate, a very good performance for this stage of the year, according to the data published on the Facebook page of Telebandera, the local television station of the municipality of Cárdenas.

Among the most popular attractions of the facility is the so-called Cuban Day, a day of homage to symbols and traditions of the Greater Antilles, a celebration for the enjoyment of cuisine, gastronomy and culture.

In 1972 it ranked among the first of its kind to open its doors to international tourism, while in the second half of the 80’s, it increased its housing capacity with the new Carey module.

Proof of the historical acceptance of this product are the high percentages of repeat visitors, travelers who decide to return after being satisfied with the hotel.

Among the most distinguished events linked to the hotel was the visit in June 1960 of the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, accompanied by French novelist Jean Paul Sartre, when he verified that the hotel workers had not been paid since February. Four months later the hotel was nationalized.
