Clown Festival closed its season in Matanzas (+ photos)
The Red Noses Clown Season, sponsored by the Papalote Theater and the Provincial Council for the Performing Arts, was held in Matanzas from Thursday June 22nd to Sunday 25th.
The event is held every summer and this year was dedicated to the 61st anniversary of the creation of the Papalote Theater and the 330th anniversary of the foundation of the city of Matanzas.
As part of the activities in its 23rd edition, the clown festival in Matanzas included a reprise contest with the participation of the youngest clowns in the city, a wonderful program in the different stages of the province, linked to the theme of the festival, and an exhibition of the plastic artist Adrian Gomez Sancho, dedicated to the birthday of the Papalote Theater.
On the same stage was the premiere of the play Se durmió en los laureles, by playwright and National Theater Award winner René Fernández Santana. This play connects the figure of the clown with the puppet and will remain on stage throughout the month of July.
Angel Feria Sao, one of the main actors, told us that «the socio-cultural project La Calle de los Títeres, promoted by the Papalote Theater, also took part in this festival, moving from its usual home to the foundational square of Matanzas in order to pay tribute to the 160th anniversary of the Sauto Theater».
Culture, in all its manifestations, gathered during the week to flood Cuba’s Athens with red noses.
