In its most recent monthly meeting, the secretariat of the Provincial Committee of the Cuban Workers’ Central (CTC) in Matanzas described as slow the control of the possession, use and legality of land, a process initiated in April.

Only 4,820 land holders have been visited, 24.6% of the total; while the biggest backlogs correspond to the municipalities of Cárdenas, Colón, Jovellanos and Jagüey Grande, according to the report presented by Rogelio Leyva Castellanos, head of the Economic Affairs area.

The checks carried out show 5,427 illegalities, of which 78 percent have already been solved, although below this average are Cárdenas, Matanzas, Unión de Reyes, Pedro Betancourt, Colón and Los Arabos.

Construction irregularities, idle or poorly exploited lands, problems with the production contract, and the detection of expired contractual relations with usufructuaries, anomalies, were identified as the main illegalities.

Leyva Castellanos said that from the union we must achieve the affiliation of all the usufructuaries and contribute to the management and preventive correction of possible violations of the law in this matter.

Several interventions made common cause in demanding from the administrations the request of idle lands to convert them into self-consumption, since the province has 18,482 hectares and there are 7,694 hectares in process.

Leyva Castellanos emphasized that the mobilization of workers to promote food production is one of the priorities of the CTC and its union movement. What corresponds from the organization is to pay attention and analyze the results of each activity, he said.

The process of control to the possession, use and legality of the land must contribute to promote the use of the installed capacities, to the reduction of idle areas and of those that are exploited in a deficient way.
