Drinking vinegar every day can reduce depression.

A group of American researchers have shown that drinking vinegar every day can help reduce the symptoms of depression.

A group of U.S. researchers have shown that drinking vinegar every day can help reduce symptoms of depression, according to a recent study published in the journal Nutrients.

The controlled trial was conducted on a group of healthy, non-smoking men and women between the ages of 18 and 45 who were randomly assigned for four weeks to either drink diluted vinegar (two tablespoons twice a day) or take a pill containing a small amount of vinegar (one a day).

Analysis of the results of the mental health tests showed that there were no differences, but depressive symptoms decreased by an average of 42 percent in the group that drank vinegar directly and by an average of 18 percent in the group that took the pills.

In turn, GC-MS analysis showed that the group that consumed liquid vinegar had an 86 percent increase in nicotinamide, a form of vitamin B3, which has anti-inflammatory and beauty properties.

According to the specialists, the improvements in depressive symptoms could be related to the changes in nicotinamide levels.

The study concludes that daily consumption of vinegar for four weeks may help reduce symptoms of depression; however, they highlight the need for further research, with longer time periods and including populations at high risk for clinical depression, to confirm these results and understand how vinegar acts in this context.
