Final preparations for starting the sugar harvest in Matanzas.

With a general test of the areas involved in the industrial process, workers at the Jesús Sablón Moreno sugar mill, in this municipality, are putting the final touches this Wednesday to start sugar cane milling, a sugar harvest that has not yet begun in the province of Matanzas due to persistent delays in repairs.

In that sense, the sugar millers of the Calimetense factory do not expect negative surprises in sensitive areas of the industry, such as boiler No. 2, which showed a fracture during hydraulic tests, in order to guarantee the start of milling next weekend, according to information provided to this newspaper by Orlando Vandrell Coello, director of Supervision and Control of the AzCuba Business Group in Matanzas.

Vandrell Coello also confirmed that the Mario Muñoz power plant in Los Arabos, the largest and most modern in the province, will carry out its general test next Thursday. «If everything goes well, both plants will be milling by the weekend», the executive assured.

In the midst of this sensitive industrial stoppage, the workers of the sector, mainly those involved in the cut, are not sitting idle. Five platoons of matanceras harvesters are currently delivering sugarcane to mills in Cienfuegos province, a volume that as of this Tuesday exceeds 20 thousand tons of sugarcane, according to the source consulted.
