First Clarinet Festival Ciudad de los Puentes.
The First Clarinet Festival Ciudad de los Puentes began in Matanzas with a master class by concert pianist Sabrina del Riego Trujillo at the Vocational School of Arts. The festival will last until next Saturday, July 15th.
The Organizing Committee, made up of Roberto Medina, Yany Calama and Yoleidys Valderrama Peñate, indicated that the sessions will be staged at the Concert Band’s headquarters and at the José White Hall, with the attendance of students from different levels of musical education and invited professionals.
Among the most outstanding attractions of the festival is the presence of maestro Vicente Monterrey, currently first clarinet of the Gran Teatro de la Habana Alicia Alonso Symphony Orchestra and head professor of the Amadeo Roldan School and the ISA.
People say that «the clarinet is synonymous with romanticism, dexterity, communication and expression, it can go from the softest and most relaxing sounds to the loudest and most aggressive, making use of the lowest and highest notes to reflect passion and feeling.»
Due to its great versatility compared to other wind instruments, its sound is appreciable within the orchestral ensemble.
In Matanzas there is a movement of scholars of this instrument, so the selection of the city to develop this first contest responds to its boom in concert and jazz music.
