Héctor Rivero, the poet who creates beautiful designs in Vigía.
«I always work from discovery, from curiosity, from love and, from these and other edges, then the works are born.»
With a degree in Sociocultural Studies, the writer, designer and illustrator Héctor Raúl Rivero is one of the young people who has found in Ediciones Vigía the incentive to turn his artistic concerns and talent.
«Since I was a child I have always been interested in art in many of its manifestations. Through me, through my family, especially my mom, I was always looking for a way to connect and learn what I liked.
«It wasn’t until 2011 that I started working at Ediciones Vigía, where I began to relate more directly with literature, the world of book-art, visual art, which are the aspects that I am passionate about.»
The poet and artisan has merited, among others, awards in the Mark Behr book-art contest in 2018 and the Eliecer Lazo poetry contest in 2022.
«Among the greatest joys I have had in my short career was the inclusion of two of my pieces of mail art to be exhibited in galleries and museums in the United States, specifically in Ohio and the presentation of a plaquette with a poem of mine winner of the Eliecer Lazo contest.
«I always work from discovery, from curiosity, from love and, from these and other edges, then the works are born. Each one of them encloses a little of what I am, of what I discover and learn about myself and my relationship with what surrounds me.
«In them you also discover elements of my experimentation with texts by other authors or with my own texts and with the world of visuality, which is very rich and gives you lots of possibilities to re-experience, to rediscover, to find new meanings».
Héctor Raúl Rivero, a young man who has been in charge of the design of beautiful copies of Ediciones Vigía, at the end of 2023 gave workshops in Mexico about his experience with book-art and writing and exhibited part of his work in the Matanzas publishing house, unique in the production of completely manufactured books.
