«La figura en el puente nuevo», new Celestino Short Story Award.

«La figura en el puente», by Matanzas writer Náthaly Hernández Chávez, was the winner of the 24th Celestino Short Story Prize, announced on Friday in Holguín.

Summoned by the Holguin branch of the Hermanos Saíz Association and its publishing house Ediciones La Luz, the contest was judged by prestigious writers Senel Paz, Atilio Caballero and Eugenio Marrón.

The winning volume «is a set of seven stories that stand out for their unity, as effective as precise, not exempt from a poetic breath that settles in its style, both in the affective as well as in the mourning of issues and characters, to offer a mosaic of stories in which memory, landscape, family, love, death and writing expand their interests», as stated in the award certificate.

Also on Friday, which was preceded by several days of literary activities, the texts «Los iguales», by Reineris Betancourt, from Guantanamo; «Gestalt», by Miguel Montero, from Holguin; and «El Alondra», by Lisbeth Lima, from Santiago de Cuba, were awarded mentions.

Dedicated to the centenary of Italo Calvino and the anniversaries of Sergio Puyol, Roberto Bolaños and Reinaldo Arenas, 23 works by authors from various regions of the country participated in the contest.
