Leyanis Pérez beat her personal best with an incredible 14.84m in the triple jump on Sunday  May 28th at the Mohammed VI International Athletics Meeting in Rabat, the second stop of the 2023 Diamond League.

The mark was enough for the young athlete from Pinar del Río to be the winner of the Meeting and it is a good omen for the important competitive commitments she will take on during the rest of the year.

The Cuban athlete arrived in the Moroccan capital at the top of the world ranking, thanks to the 14.80 metres she jumped, which gave her the victory just a few days ago at the 2023 Cuba Cup in Athletics. The new high mark allowed her to beat proven rivals such as Ukraine’s Maryna Bekh-Romanchuk (14.65m) and Jamaica’s Shanieska Ricketts (14.53m).

The progress of the vaulter has come since her fourth place at the last world championships. She appears as one of the most notorious figures in the team that this year will take on great challenges, such as the upcoming Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador and the Pan American Games in Santiago.

Thanks to the JIT press, we learned that from Rabat, her coach Ricardo Ponce assured that the planning of the competition was fulfilled and that the mark emerges from the stability that she is achieving in top level events.

This result raises expectations for the upcoming competitions and the rivalry with the main reference in this event, the Venezuelan Yulimar Rojas, who announced her debut for the Oslo stop on June 15th.

Once again, Leyanis was accompanied by the more experienced Liadagmis Povea, whose best jump of 14.27 metres earned her fourth place.
The most important athletics series in the world will continue on 2 June in Florence, where triple jumper Lázaro Martínez will compete for Cuba.

The reigning world indoor champion started his incursions with a maximum of 17.71m, which took him to fourth place in the segment held in Doha.
