Los Cometas de la Playa.
Los Cometas de la Playa is a community work group for children from the Matanzas neighborhoods of La Playa, Reynold García (Pastorita), Pueblo Nuevo, Versalles and El Cocal.
It has children in different categories, from 5 to 7 years old, and prepares them for the 7 and 8 years old category, which is the strongest in the province.
The Cometas participated in the provincial competition in Havana, where they finished in first place with a balance of 16 wins and only four losses.
«We did not participate in the final because one of the coaches had to travel for a work contract to Canada and I can not travel alone, there are 15 children,» said the director of the Cometas de la Playa, the outstanding baseball player Fernando Sanchez.
This project is looking for more and more children from the community to join them every day. They train from Tuesdays to Saturdays, preparing the children for sporting events on Saturdays and Sundays.
They rejoice that players representing the Matanzas Crocodiles, such as Andrys Pérez and his brother Adrián, and Naykel Cruz took their first steps in this community area.
