Matanzas celebrates 331 years with a great chess simultaneous (+photos) .

Libertad Park was the scene of a great chess simultaneous that brought together students, teachers and athletes of the EIDE Luis Augusto Turcios Lima in an exciting sporting event.

Libertad  Park was the scene of a great simultaneous chess game that gathered students, teachers and athletes of the Luis Augusto Turcios Lima School of Sports Initiation in an exciting sporting event. The activity, which had 31 boards, was organized on the occasion of the 331st anniversary of the city of Matanzas.

Two student athletes from our city, Haden Aldazábal Duarte and Hélder Ávila Calderín, both recognized in the last National School Games, starred in the simultaneous and were challenged by children and teenagers who train in the chess academies of the municipality.

The meeting, according to Jorge Enrique González Méndez, provincial commissioner of the science game, was an opportunity to show  the active presence of chess in the new generations and served as a space for the promotion of this science sport, considered as an enriching exercise for children, since it helps to develop skills such as strategy, concentration and problem solving.

The simultaneous chess game was not the only attraction of the activity. The sports event included demonstrations of other sports disciplines, such as baseball, field hockey, basketball, martial arts and cycling, which turned the Parque de la Libertad into the scene of a true sports festival.

Undoubtedly, a distinctive note was the presence of the first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in the province, Mario Sabines Lorenzo, who not only talked with the participants in the simultaneous, but also played with them, as a sign of his predilection for the game of science.
