Presentation of magazines, poetry books, essays and novels at the Matanzas fair.

Important literary events took place during the second session of the 32nd Matanzas Book Fair.

Highlights were the colloquium on digital magazines and the presentation of three books by personalities such as Waldo Leyva, Leymen Pérez and Margarita Sánchez.

The Palacio de Junco Museum was the venue for the Pasar Revista Colloquium on digital magazines. The special exhibition dedicated to Ediciones Matanzas was inaugurated, with the exhibition of three issues, highlighting the one dedicated to the figure of the poet Gabriel de la Concepción Valdés, Plácido.

Nathaly Hernández, Yunier Riquenes, Luis Yuseff, Nelson Simón and Abel González Fagundo participated in the dialogue, moderated by Beatriz Ferreiro. The latest issues of Cauce Magazine, from Pinar del Río, were also promoted, among them, the one dedicated to tobacco as Cultural Heritage.

The presentation of the poetry books Subsuelos and Los países de la noche, by Leymen Pérez; the essay Ni dogmáticos ni ingenuos. Testimony on the Columna Juvenil de Escritores y Artistas de Oriente, by Waldo Leyva and the novel Madera antigua, by Margarita Sánchez.

The critic Lincoln Capote, coordinator of the space, opened the opinion table, which was in charge of Norge Céspedes, who in his reference to the book of poems Subsuelos, by Leymen, underlined his moving vision on the loss of a loved one and his award, when he won the Literary Critics Award 2023.

As for Los países de la noche, also by Leymen Pérez, the presenter was the writer Waldo Leyva, journalist and poet of international prestige, who pointed out the lyrical virtues of this work, winner of the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz 2022 International Poetry Prize, republished by Letras Cubanas publishing house.

It was the turn of the poet from Yumurino to refer to Leyva’s essay on the role of the Columna Juvenil in Oriente in the 1960s, cataloguing it as a historical document of high value that clarifies passages of the political and intellectual events that took place at the beginning of the Revolution.

Finally, in the presentation of the novel Madera antigua, by Margarita Sanchez, its presenter, Waldo Leyva, pondered its intimate style, where loneliness can be felt as a hymn to resistance.

On Saturday at the Fair, the colloquiums at the Palacio de Junco museum were dedicated to the work of Jose Manuel Espino Ortega, writer honored in this version of the Matanzas Fair, and to Teatro de Las Estaciones, also congratulated, with the table Literature and Altarpieces.

Meanwhile, in the El Peregrino hall, among other options, there will be the presentation of the book: Diario del encierro, by the award-winning Colombian writer Luis Lexandel Pita, who won the prize in the contest of the Foundation of the City of Nueva Gerona.
