Tribute to Guiteras and Aponte at El Morrillo.
Tribute was paid to the memory of martyrs Antonio Guiteras and Carlos Aponte at the El Morrillo Museum in Matanzas, 88 years after their assassination near the entrance of the Canímar River by Fulgencio Batista’s forces.
Floral offerings on behalf of the people of Matanzas were laid by the highest political and government authorities, as well as workers from the University of Matanzas, AZCUBA, the Union of Young Communists and the Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric plant.
During the meeting, Yosiel Oliver Ortega, member of the Political Bureau of the Provincial Committee of the UJC in the province, spoke about the work of Antonio Guiteras, during his term as Secretary of the Interior at that time. Measures that he carried out with a revolutionary tendency that favoured the proletariat.
During the ceremony, the troubadour Orlando Pérez Casuso interpreted the song «Créeme», by Vicente Feliú, an iconic song that the author himself said was dedicated to these heroes.
At the end of the ceremony, those present went inside the museum, where they placed flowers in the urns containing the ashes of Guiteras and Aponte, and were able to see the boat where the bodies were transferred from the place of their death to El Morillo.
