Silent as a temple of books where reading and document management are revered, on Matanzas Street between Río y Medio, the Center for Documentation and Pedagogical Information is a reference of the librarian’s work in the so-called Athens of Cuba.

This center was created in the seventies of the twentieth century, and one of its fundamental missions is to complement the educational teaching work by supporting it with our collections, which fortunately are very rich and are preserved thanks to the dedication of the collective, said Nancy Madera, director of the institution.

We are a big working family here and we all have the same goal, that all the users who come to visit us leave pleased, satisfied with what we have and what we provide; One of our missions is also to complement, help and support the training of school librarians, to try to ensure that the schools offer a fruitful information service, to promote the habit of reading, which is a bit difficult due to the issue of technology, but we always defend the fact that physical books play a fundamental role in the training of any student, of any researcher and in recreation as well, she added.

«I work with a group in which almost everyone is older but I call them my girls and I would not change them for any young girl because they give the best of themselves, they are very good workers, they are very good people and that characterizes this group,» she emphasized.

We are a working family, all of us defenders of information, of the library, of reading, of love for books, and everyone has been devoted to this work for many years, he said.

A librarian should be distinguished by his love for books, for reading, that is very important, but he should be distinguished by the satisfaction of others, because the fact that a user leaves an information unit pleased and satisfied, that he leaves with his information needs resolved, is something that gives him full satisfaction, said Madera.

More than 25 thousand volumes are kept by the Pedagogical Documentation and Information Center in the city of Matanzas, an institution whose consecrated work group honors the librarian’s work.
