Intensive Treatment Against Aedes aegypti Underway in Matanzas and Cárdenas.
Starting this Monday, efforts are focused on the Milanés area and the central zone of Cárdenas, in a joint action aimed at breaking the chain of transmission of dengue and chikungunya

An intensive fumigation campaign is underway in the municipalities of Matanzas and Cárdenas to curb the proliferation of the Aedes aegypti mosquito and reduce the incidence of fever cases in the province’s two largest cities. According to Ronny Reyes Sánchez, a specialist in Hygiene and Epidemiology, the strategy was activated after an increase in fever cases was recorded in these cities and has two well-defined phases
. «It was decided to carry out intensive treatment in these two municipalities starting last week. The first phase covered four health areas in the provincial capital. For this offensive, we received significant support from the Ministry of Public Health: they donated 70 new sprayers from their reserve,» stated Reyes Sánchez. The results of this first stage were highly effective. Approximately 95 percent of the houses were fumigated.
The remaining percentage corresponds to closed homes whose residents were at work; these are being refurbished to ensure that no family is left unprotected.
This Sunday, after the fumigation in Matanzas concluded, the second phase immediately began in the municipality of Cárdenas.
«That same Sunday afternoon, 42 machines were deployed to the municipality of Cárdenas, which, combined with the 25 they already had, brings the total to around 65,» explained the specialist.
Starting this Monday, the work is concentrated in the Milanés area and the central zone of Cárdenas, in a joint effort aimed at breaking the chain of transmission of dengue and chikungunya, and consolidating the reduction in febrile cases reported last week.
