According to Biolexi Ballester, director of the José Enrique Estrada Firehouse Museum, a political-cultural event and a visit to the history room of the Special Command of the Juan Gualberto Gómez International Airport will be held on that day.
On August 5th, at 9:00 a.m., a commemorative act for the second anniversary of the fire at the Matanzas Supertanker Base will be held at the Plaza de la Vigía in front of the museum.
Also that day, the book «Entre Fuegos Bomberos de Matanzas» by Editorial Capitán San Luis will be presented and the exhibition of photographs «Con la Sal a Cuesta», by Matanzas photographer Ernesto Cruz, from the Intermittent Rivers Project of the 15th Havana Biennial, will be inaugurated.
In addition, a donation from Ediciones Vigía, with a poem by Tania Jiménez, will be delivered to the same museum.
In the afternoon, a floral offering will be placed and a pilgrimage will be made to the obelisk to the martyr of the Fire Brigade, Yosvany Campanioni Bosque, on the occasion of his birthday.
That day will conclude with the bell ringing ceremony, in tribute to the 17 deceased and all the personnel who collaborated in extinguishing the fire, with the presentation of the cultural project «Concilio de las aguas», with the collaboration of the UNEAC, the Provincial Book Center and Provincial Culture, in the Fire Station Museum ‘José Enrique Estrada’.
On August 5th, 2022, a fire of great proportions caused by lightning destroyed four fuel tanks at the Supertanker Base in Matanzas, causing the death of 17 people, most of them firefighters.
