CTC reconoce aporte obrero en recuperación de zeopónico de Cárdenas

The contribution of dozens of labor collectives in the recovery of the important food source that is the Cardenas zeoponic was recognized by the secretariat of the Provincial Committee of the Cuban Workers’ Trade Union (CTC) in Matanzas.

Osmar Ramírez, top representative of this organization here, praised those who change their traditional functions in factories, hotels, industries and other manufacturing centers of goods and services to help recover the productive capacity of the zeoponic.

«We thank all those who come to work every day at the Cardenas City zeoponic. Progress is evident. Now it is time to take care of what has been done, to make it sustainable, so that the 744 beds are not lost and their harvests help to lower the prices of fresh vegetables and condiments».

In the last two months, day after day, representatives of all sectors have been clearing the weeds, recovering spaces to make them cultivable in the largest area of this type in the province.

Precisely in these premises will take place next December the 27th the national event for the 36th anniversary of the Urban, Suburban and Family Agriculture (AUSUF), a movement that emerged in 1987.

According to experts, the greatest potential that the AUSUF has for obtaining food is the movement of patios and plots, as a result of the articulated action with the Cuban Women’s Federation, the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution, the Association of Combatants of the Cuban Revolution and the popular councils.

Founded on the instructions of Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, then Minister of the Armed Forces, this movement is recognized as a strength for the consolidation of local food systems and its productive base is based on vegetable gardens and organopónicos built in unused spaces, mainly in cities and population settlements.
