The Specialized Group of Relief Operations (GEOS) of the Red Cross in Matanzas has a close working relationship with the Civil Defense (CD), to whose call we go to support in the most dissimilar rescue situations, explained Judith Rodriguez Reyes, head of GEOS in the territory.
As a system of defensive measures of state character, carried out in peacetime and during exceptional situations, with the purpose of protecting the population and the national economy, the CD reaches in this month of July 61 years in the effort to achieve levels of preparation in Cuban society that allow facing disaster situations with the least possible amount of affectations, for this involves important forces, among them the Red Cross.
Cyclones, hurricanes and floods, accidents, fires of great proportions as in the case of the Supertanker Base in August 2022, the rescue work at the Antonio Guiteras Thermoelectric Plant last April, GEOS was there at the call of the Civil Defense, Judith assured.
The Specialized Group of Relief Operations enters complex scenarios together with the CD forces and others such as firefighters, the Ministry of the Interior, the Revolutionary Armed Forces, to safeguard human lives, she argues.
Judith assures that the good working relations is what most distinguishes the union that exists between GEOS and DC, they act very well coordinated, organized and support each other in all the tasks they are entrusted with, respecting the protocols established for security, they undoubtedly form a great team to assume the risks, with and for humanity.
