The declaration formalizes an academic, scientific and cultural cooperation agreement between the Universidad del Valle, in Cali, Republic of Colombia, and the University of Matanzas, signed on October 13th, according to Miladys Moreno, professor of that center, who shared on her social networks.

She also officially recognized the University of Matanzas as the seat of the UNESCO Chair MECEAL: Reading and Writing in Cuba, which will work in close collaboration and coordination with the main seat of the Network.

Dr. María Cristina Solís, general coordinator of the UNESCO MECEAL Chair: Reading and Writing in Latin America, who spoke from Cali, recognized the trajectory, results and potential of the Matanzas Chair in its efforts to highlight the role of the mother tongue, reading and writing with quality criteria in higher education.

Ángela María García Caballero, vice-president of the Chair of Reading and Writing of the Matanzas University, presented the projections for the year 2024, which are focused on maintaining the quality of the Master Tour Internships; promoting scientific activity towards the defined lines of research; guaranteeing student mobility, optional and elective courses and the socialization and generalization of research results.

The UNESCO Chairs Program was launched in 1992 and brings together more than 850 institutions in 117 countries, promotes cooperation and inter-university links on a global scale, with the aim of strengthening institutional capacities through knowledge sharing and collaboration.

This new agreement between the University of Matanzas and the University of Cali is an opportunity for the development of higher education in Cuba and Colombia.
