Radio 26 – Matanzas, Cuba

Emisora provincial de Matanzas, Cuba, La Radio de tu Corazón

A necessary change.

The information that the Jovellanos II photovoltaic park is advancing in Matanzas and that they started another one in Martí, with the disconnection of the SEN, the price of oil and the difficulties to obtain it, show the urgency to increase the generation of energy from renewable sources.

The information that in Matanzas the construction works of the Jovellanos II photovoltaic park are progressing and that the works of another one in the municipality of Martí have begun, in view of the experience of the last days with the disconnection of the National Electroenergetic System (SEN), the price of oil in the international market and the difficulties that Cuba faces to obtain it due to the blockade, demonstrate the urgency of increasing the generation of energy from renewable sources.

Specifically, with the energy that the Sun gives us free of costs and amendments, the Cárdenas I and Cárdenas III sites are already operating in this province, each one contributing five megawatts/peak to the SEN, while the three new ones, two of which are under construction, should individually deliver about 20 megawatts/peak.

The Sun is the main source of energy for the Earth and although its life is finite, this yellow star will remain active for four or five billion years more for the benefit of earthlings. Of the intense radiation we receive from the Sun, only six percent is used to meet the energy demands of all humanity.

By substituting fossil fuels with renewable sources to generate electricity, heat or movement, we protect our Blue Planet from climate change, since greenhouse gas emissions are reduced or eliminated. In addition, from an economic standpoint, nations can achieve energy independence.

Solar energy is a clean and abundant energy that does not require any means of transportation, hence it can be used everywhere. For example, in rural, remote or difficult to access areas.

The maintenance of its sites is minimal and it produces very little noise, which is why noise pollution is neglected.

In addition to these benefits, it is possible to recover, recycle and reuse the panels, which further reduces the environmental impact of this type of technology that, thanks to continuous human innovation, is becoming increasingly efficient and competitive.
