The Canchánchara is no longer just for the city of Trinidad in the province of Sancti Spíritus. Now this delicious Cuban cocktail is also served in Varadero, since the opening of the Palmares Company’s location on 1st Avenue, at the corner of 18th Street.

In this way, the most famous beach resort in Cuba pays homage to a drink that is an essential part of Cuban culture, Palmares posted on its Facebook profile.

The inauguration was attended by Michel Matías, first secretary of the Municipal Committee of the Party in Cárdenas; Marilín Rodríguez, government representative for the Hicacos Peninsula; and Ivón Cervantes, president of the Varadero People’s Council.
The proposal incorporates the new features with which this company is preparing for the peak tourist season, the period from November to April when the country receives its largest influx of international visitors and, consequently, its highest foreign exchange earnings.
Leonor Ravelo, from the management of the Palmares Company, told Radio 26 that franchises like La Bodeguita del Medio and Bar Floridita have been successful, so it’s possible that Canchánchara will now enjoy similar success.

Considered the original cocktail of this island, it was invented in the eastern region during the War of Independence against Spain by the Mambises, using a mixture of rum, honey, and any citrus fruit they had on hand. It is said that they drank it hot as a nourishing and invigorating beverage.
In Trinidad, in the center of the country, a project emerged to preserve the Canchánchara. A bar was restored, which later became one of the most visited spots by international tourists.
