Matanzas specialists participate in workshop on gestational and congenital syphilis .

Three medical specialists from Matanzas will participate on November 12th and 13th in the Workshop on Updating the Protocols for the Management of Gestational and Congenital Syphilis, to be held at the Brisas del Mar Hotel in Varadero.
The main objective of the meeting is to discuss with particular emphasis the desensitization protocol for pregnant women diagnosed with syphilis allergic to penicillin.
It will also provide the ideal space for health personnel to strengthen their capacities in key aspects related to the surveillance system for the aforementioned entity.
The strategy for prevention and control of mother-to-child transmission of syphilis should be oriented towards the dynamic activities necessary to interrupt transmission, prevent reestablishment and sustain the elimination of transmission from pregnant women to their children as a flagship achievement of our health system.
The workshop covers all relevant technical areas including, but not limited to, epidemiology, surveillance and response, case management, control, acceleration strategies, and effective management and planning of a penicillin desensitization protocol for penicillin-allergic pregnant women.
National recommendations contained in the National Strategic Plan for the prevention of STIs, HIV and hepatitis for the period 2024-2028 will also be planned.
