Special Olympics celebrated in Pedro Betancourt in honor of INDER’s 65th anniversary.

Under the slogan «Olympics with Fidel,» the Jesús Menéndez Larrondo school in this region hosted the Special Olympics in celebration of the centennial of the birth of the Historical Leader of the Cuban Revolution and the 65th anniversary of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education, and Recreation (INDER).

The day provided an opportunity for inclusion and recognition of the athletes’ skill and effort. The event was marked by enthusiasm, unity, and a drive to excel, enlivened by musical performances from the Estrellitas del Futuro (Little Stars of the Future) children’s choir from the José Antonio Echeverría Elementary School.

Through various competitive disciplines, this inter-institutional collaboration facilitated recreational activities involving students from the school, guests from other educational institutions, political and governmental authorities, and local representatives from the sports sector.

During the demonstrations, the collaborative work between coaches and specialized teachers was evaluated, with an emphasis on athletic performance and the development of participants’ autonomy.

The technical team observed the progress in the athletes’ preparation, validating the role of systematic physical exercise as an essential component of the comprehensive care provided at the aforementioned educational institution.

Those present also highlighted the Commander-in-Chief’s role as the main driving force behind this educational approach and mass participation in sports on the island. This philosophy, they added, ensures that sports participation is a right shared by all members of society without distinction and, consequently, one of the most solid achievements of the revolutionary project.
