The eternal musical legacy of Pablo Milanés.

Revered for the sensitivity of his lyrics, the sweetness of his melodies and the warmth of his voice, the outstanding singer-songwriter Pablo Milanés Arias is one of the main references of Cuban and Latin American songwriting, to the point of conquering millions of hearts with his creations throughout the world.

Founder of the Grupo de Experimentación Sonora del Instituto Cubano del Arte e Industria Cinematográficos (ICAIC) and of the prestigious Movimiento de la Nueva Trova, together with singer-songwriters Silvio Rodríguez and Noel Nicola, this prestigious artist from Bayamon, Cuba, born on February 24th, 1943, became a cult of filin lyricism and ventured into almost all genres of popular music in the region, giving us immortal ballads such as Yolanda, Para vivir, Tú, mi desengaño, Estás lejos, El breve espacio en que no estás, No ha sido fácil, among others.

Likewise, Milanés stood out for his commitment to the social and political causes of his time, manifesting it in his lyrics full of social criticism, denunciation of injustices and calls for solidarity, precisely in a Latin American context marked by struggles and yearnings for transformation, managing to channel the collective emotions of an entire generation through his music and becoming an indisputable reference of the protest song and the songwriter’s song.

Stages in countries such as Mexico, Brazil, Ecuador, Argentina, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Colombia, Chile and New York and performers such as the Mexicans Rubén Fuentes and Marco Antonio Muñiz, the Brazilians Chico Buarque and Milton Nascimento, the Peruvian-Mexican Tania Libertad, the Asturian Víctor Manuel, among many others, were delighted and accompanied him in his musical compositions, in which his characteristic love, modesty, reflection and passion shone through.

Important awards such as the Replica de la Pluma del Cucalambé, in Las Tunas, in 2011; a Latin Grammy Award nomination for his Vengo naciendo, as best pop music album 2000, as well as the distinction La Mar de Músicas 2017, among many others, are among the awards he received for his enormous talent and fruitful artistic career.

Sadly, Pablo Milanés passed away in the city of Madrid on November the 22nd, 2022 at the age of 79, leaving behind him more than five decades of commitment to culture and art and a perennial sonorous legacy whose sensitivity, authenticity and greatness, transcends to this day.
