Writer Eliseo Abreu, from Jovellanos, celebrates his birthday.

Eliseo Francisco Abreu Hernández, a writer from Jovellanos, is one of the most awarded writers in the province in the genres of short stories and poetry.

Writer Eliseo Francisco Abreu Hernández, from Jovellanos, is one of the most awarded writers in the province in the genres of short stories and poetry.

He is celebrating today, since he was born on May 14th, 1961 and his career includes more than 90 awards, mentions and recognitions.

Eliseo Abreu has a degree in Physical Education from the University of Matanzas and currently works in the Municipal Sports Department of his hometown. He also stands out in his teaching in the discipline of Karate.

Member of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, among his awards stand out being a finalist in the poetry genre of the Contest La Gaceta de Cuba, first mention in the National Contest America Bobia, prize in the National Contest of Science Fiction Short Story Technical Youth.

The most recent are the Prize of the Ciudad del Che Literary Contest 2023, with the work «Versículos del feriante», awarded by the UNEAC of Villa Clara and first mention in the 26th Hermanos Loynaz Contest 2024, with the collection of poems «Las almas de Fátima».

Jovellanense Eliseo Abreu’s work has been published in editorials, anthologies and national and foreign magazines. He is considered one of the most active writers of Matanzas.

He heads the Literary Workshop of the Manuel Navarro Luna House of Culture in Jovellanos and participates assiduously in activities of the UNEAC and the Provincial Center of the Book and Literature.
