Yatobá Agroecological Farm Promotes Sustainable Practices in La Ceiba.

The farm’s collective is dedicated to the cultivation of root vegetables, grains, and other produce such as bell peppers, potatoes, sweet potatoes, cassava, plantains, tomatoes, cucumbers, cabbage, and green beans, among other products.

The Yatobá Agroecological Farm, located in the Matanzas municipality of Ciénaga de Zapata, is developing a project focused on the responsible production of food and the promotion of sustainable practices in the community.

The farm’s collective cultivates root vegetables, grains, and other produce such as bell peppers, potatoes, sweet potatoes, cassava, plantains, tomatoes, cucumbers, cabbage, and green beans, among other products. They are also making progress in incorporating rabbit farming, which they consider a nutritious alternative in line with their agroecological principles.

According to its members, one of the project’s priorities is adopting alternatives that help mitigate the effects of climate change, as well as promoting the use of renewable energy in agricultural work.

In addition to its productive work, Yatobá maintains a strong commitment to community education, especially for young people. Through training programs, the farm seeks to transmit knowledge about agroecology and sustainability, and foster a culture of environmental stewardship among new generations.

With these initiatives, the project aims to improve the quality of life in La Ceiba and promote a more sustainable development model for the region.
