UN Special Rapporteur Meets with Experts on the Impact of the Blockade on Economic Sectors in Matanzas.

Today, executives from the Antonio Guiteras Thermoelectric Power Plant in Matanzas met with the UN Special Rapporteur and explained the impact of the US blockade on the National Electric System.

The restrictions have limited the acquisition of spare parts, increased the cost of fuel, and caused damages exceeding $496 million in the energy sector.

Later, in Varadero, officials from the Ministry of Tourism and representatives of the local Navy met with the Special Rapporteur, demonstrating how the restrictive measures have reduced the arrival of international visitors, prevented cruise ships from entering the port, and paralyzed strategic projects.

The day’s activities provided direct documentation of the blockade’s impact on sectors essential to the country’s development and highlighted its consequences for the well-being and human rights of the Cuban people.
