Recognized as the best tourist attraction in the city of Matanzas, the Hotel Velasco is celebrating 15 years in operation, after its reopening on December 10th, 2010, under the Encanto brand.

“Today marks the 15th anniversary of the Hotel Velasco. Congratulations to all its employees, committed to ensuring that every Cuban and foreign tourist who visits us leaves with a positive experience thanks to the quality of service. We hope each employee will remember their exemplary performance,” wrote Jesús Lauzurique Suárez, currently managing the hotel, on his social media account.

Arasay García Vega, a reception specialist, recently highlighted to Radio 26 the strong connection between the hotel and the residents of Matanzas, who enjoy musical and culinary offerings on Fridays, a day dedicated to Cuban culture.

She assured that the peak tourist season from November to April will be another opportunity to celebrate the Velasco Hotel’s 15th anniversary, and to that end, she announced the return of Saturday afternoon jam sessions, also featuring live music.

She expressed her delight at the return of the candy and ice cream service to the ice cream parlor on December 10th. Nearby is the multipurpose hall, a popular venue for parties and other celebrations.

Located on Contreras Street, across from Liberty Park (formerly Plaza de Armas), the hotel showcases its original 20th-century tableware and the restaurant’s artistic centerpiece, which, it is claimed, was inaugurated under the direction of Luis Velasco and remains unchanged from 123 years ago.

Winner of the 2025 Provincial Conservation Award, the Velasco Hotel embodies the grace of the era, as reflected in its eclectic architecture, adorned with marble, granite, and precious woods, along with a decor reminiscent of the salons and residences of the early 20th century.

Managed by Cubanacán, a wholly Cuban-owned company, and located near emblematic sites in the city of Matanzas such as the Sauto Theater and the Triolet French Pharmacy (now a Pharmaceutical Museum), the Velasco Hotel primarily caters to European clients, although it is also frequently visited by tourists from many other markets.
