Joel Barbosa de Oliveira and the Flavors of Matanzas.
Barbosa de Oliveira also shared his joy at returning to Matanzas and discovering new musical styles, as well as enjoying more familiar ones like jazz and bolero.

The gifted Brazilian musician, Joel Barbosa de Oliveira, visited the city of Matanzas for the second time to conduct the Grand Christmas Concert at the Sauto Theater, a National Monument.
«Thirty years ago I first set foot in Matanzas, and to return after so long to do what I love alongside such admirable artists is priceless,» the maestro expressed. Regarding the experience of working with so many talented young musicians, he highlighted the positive energy that prevailed during rehearsals and how mutual respect and understanding were always present both on and off stage.
«Despite the generational gap, we all achieved a strong connection that was evident on stage—a unique opportunity to work with experienced musicians and others with promising futures.»
Barbosa de Oliveira also shared his joy at returning to Matanzas and discovering new musical styles, as well as enjoying more familiar ones like jazz and bolero.
«I feel like I already know the flavors of Matanzas. Every time I come, I feel at home. Here, the artists make all kinds of music and never cease to amaze me with their simplicity and the confidence they exude.»
In thanking the organizers for the invitation to such a significant event, he commented that his expectations for the concert were very high, given the preparation time and the caliber of the participants, which gave him peace of mind throughout.
For the maestro, the most important thing as a professional is that his colleagues feel comfortable and excel with each performance, a personal fulfillment that is incomparable.
“I notice that people who make music aren’t going to do anything else in life. It’s the only activity that truly impassions them to the point of dedicating themselves completely to it. It’s an act of courage, which is why it’s necessary to differentiate between work and genuine motivation.”
Throughout his career, the director, originally from Brazil, has led various Christian music festivals as part of a family tradition and his childhood dream.
