Guadalajara Sport Club, a third-division football club in the Spanish league, hosted FC Barcelona for the Round of 32 of the Copa del Rey.
With a score of two goals to zero, the home side was eliminated at this stage of the competition, but they held their heads high. For over 75 minutes, their deep defensive block withstood the Catalan club’s attack.
The introduction of Spanish player Pedri for Barça unlocked Guadalajara’s defensive solidity, allowing him to move the ball into tight spaces and connect with the Blaugrana’s attack.
In the 76th minute, Andreas Christensen rose to head home a cross from Frenkie de Jong, giving Barça the lead. Minutes later, Rashford sealed the home side’s comeback hopes after a superb through ball from Lamine Yamal.
The match was marked by the emotional return of captain Ter Stegen to the Barça goal after seven months of recovery from a back injury. They also managed to keep a clean sheet for the first time away from home since August 16th against Mallorca in the League.
