With this victory, FC Barcelona qualifies for the final and has the chance to defend the title they won last year against Real Madrid.
A dominant FC Barcelona defeated Athletic Club de Bilbao 5-0 in the Spanish Super Cup semifinal being played in Saudi Arabia.
The Alinma Stadium in Jeddah hosted the match between the Bilbao side and the Catalan giants. Hansi Flick’s men were far superior in every aspect of the game.
The Catalan club’s superiority was reflected on the scoreboard in the 22nd minute of the first half when midfielder Fermín López and Brazilian winger Raphael Dias Belloli combined to give them the first goal of the match.
After conceding the first goal, Athletic tried to respond, but their efforts were in vain. Fermín López scored in the 30th minute and Roony Bardghji in the 34th to extend Barcelona’s lead.
With the game completely under their control, Barcelona dominated possession, while continuing to press forward against goalkeeper Unai Simón.
Raphinha, named man of the match, scored in the 38th minute of the first half and again in the 52nd minute of the second half to complete the rout.
With this victory, FC Barcelona advances to the final and has the chance to defend the title they won last year against Real Madrid.
