Literary Day in Matanzas: Events and Meetings with Authors.

The literary day in Matanzas for Poet’s Day, from the 3rd to the 7th of this month, began today with the laying of a floral offering before the bust of Bonifacio Byrne in the plaza erected in his honor at the entrance to the viaduct.

Following this will be the lecture «Byrne, the Verse of the Homeland,» by Dr. Urbano Martínez Carmenate, National History Prize winner, at the Gener y Del Monte Library, the awards ceremony for the Bonifacio Byrne Contest, and the presentation of the performance «Council of the Waters,» dedicated to Poet’s Day.

In the afternoon, at the Pharmaceutical Museum, a colloquium will be held in honor of Dr. Ercilio Vento Canosa, City Historian, with the participation of intellectuals connected to science and culture.

On Wednesday  4th, at 11:00 am, the popular San Juan Murmurante event will take place, featuring the young and award-winning writer Náthaly Hernández Chávez, at the José White Concert Hall. Simultaneously, a group of poets will tour schools, workplaces, and institutions in Matanzas, offering readings from their published books.

On Thursday 5th, the «Como ángel cierto» event will be held at the Digdora Alonso House of Letters, and in the afternoon, the décima (a ten-line stanza form) will take center stage in Matanzas with the «Con tus ojos míos» gathering, presented by the Aldabón publishing house.

On Friday 6th, the morning will feature the «Pasar revista» Colloquium at Matanzas Publishing House, followed by «La gente pasa y nos mira» (People Pass By and Look at Us) in the afternoon, with guest authors, at La Libertad Park.

Saturday 7th includes an exhibition of the Aldabón Publishing House catalog, as well as a children’s book fair with their authors, also at La Libertad Park.

A highly anticipated event will be the Women Writers’ Meeting, and in the afternoon, the «Concilio de las aguas» (Council of the Waters) performance, featuring poems and songs in honor of International Women’s Day.

The Literary Festival, from March 3rd to 8th, will take place in Matanzas, paying tribute to Bonifacio Byrne, the poet of «Mi Bandera» (My Flag), and to all the writers of the province.
