63rd Anniversary of the Victory of Playa Giron is Remembered.

Sixty-three years later, the victory of Playa Giron resounds in the same places where the Cuban people inflicted the first great defeat on U.S. imperialism.

Hundreds of residents of this peninsula commemorated today the 63rd anniversary of the Bay of Pigs Victory.

On behalf of Army General Raúl Castro, the first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the Republic, Miguel Díaz Canel Bermúdez and the Cuban people, floral offerings were placed in front of the plaque that perpetuates the memory of the fallen during the battle, in the Playa Girón museum.

The member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee, José Ramón Monteagudo Ruiz, together with the First Secretary in Matanzas, Mario Sabines Lorenzo, delivered during the ceremony the Party card to new militants of the organization. Nemesia Rodríguez Montano and her family were special guests.

Reserve Lieutenant Colonel Ramón Flores Sardiñas, one of the participants of the event, recalled the actions, the courage of the young people and highlighted the support of the people to defeat the mercenaries.

During the ceremony, new members of the Association of Combatants of the Cuban Revolution and of the Union of Young Communists (UIC) also received their membership cards. The first secretary of the UJC, Meyvis Estévez Echavarría, reaffirmed the commitment of her generation and spoke about the challenges of these times.

«We understand that the trenches can change scenario and that in these times we have to fight with our ideas as weapons in an unconventional war, where there are also mercenaries to defeat and spaces to preserve. But make no mistake our enemies because we are also willing to pawn the rifles that once made them bite the dust of defeat. We are a people who love peace and are committed to building bridges where others build walls.»

Performing at the political-cultural gala were the group Nuestra América, the repentistas Orismay Hernández and Ricardo González, the guitar and flute duo Alborada and the soloist Maday Acosta, who interpreted Girón, la victoria, by Sara González.
