Attempt to reverse the difficult productive situation of Matanzas Genetics.
Encouraged by the purpose of restoring the splendor of the Empresa Pecuaria Genética de Matanzas (EPGM), a consultation process began with the directors and workers of the 53-year-old entity.
Far from its best productive years, Genetics has lost weight and is gradually trying to gain the pounds that several factors have taken away from it. This justifies the assembly process underway, at the request of Esteban Lazo Hernández, member of the Political Bureau and president of the National Assembly of People’s Power, and the highest political and governmental authorities of the province.
Osmar Ramírez Ramírez, general secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Cuban Workers’ Central, presided over the meeting in the Majagua Base Business Unit (UEB), one of the four that have already carried out their analysis.
For next week, exchanges are planned for the remaining three UEBs, to complete the seven of this type of structure that make up EPGM, which is made up of 114 dairies, 56 development centers and a livestock mass of around 9,600 animals.
Jorge Acosta, deputy director, explained to Radio 26 that the purpose of these consultations is to listen to criteria, suggestions and proposals on how to reverse the problems faced by the company in a comprehensive manner, which by 2023 had planned economic losses of around 40 million pesos and unfortunately today exceeds this figure.
It was explained that, due to multiple factors, EPGM presents unfavorable behavior in reproductive indicators, mass growth, milk plan, births, deaths, water supply, transportation and machinery, labor discipline and the use of the working day.
The different interventions showed the desire to transform a UEB that today averages 3.6 liters of milk per cow and is decreasing the theft and slaughter of cattle thanks to the surveillance measures adopted, proof that it is possible, said Raydel Cabello, general secretary of the Provincial Union of Agricultural, Tobacco and Forestry Workers.
When making the conclusions of the meeting, Ramírez Ramírez called managers and workers to make the exceptions of the Genética company a rule, where some labor collectives show that it is possible to achieve excellent results, in spite of the limited resources.
Created by the initiative of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro on August 20th, 1970, EPGM had its historical production in 1987, when it averaged 58 million liters of milk, a figure it has not been able to approach in the last decade, and today its plan is very far from its real potential.
