The GEYSEL Generator Set and Technical Services Company in Matanzas province could end the year with a power output exceeding 46 megawatts across its 12 sites in the territory.
This achievement stems from the installation of eight new 1.8-megawatt units donated by the People’s Republic of China and the refurbishment of existing units.
This distributed generation system comprises 54 generators, with an installed capacity of nearly 80 megawatts in several municipalities, including Ciénaga de Zapata, Colón, Varadero, and the city of Matanzas.
Experts consulted on the matter agreed that, regardless of the diesel fuel shortage, distributed generation is strengthening, as work continues on preparing and replacing engines at a significant portion of the twelve battery banks currently in operation.
Although it is very likely that the 80 megawatts of installed capacity will not be reached by the end of the year, at least 46 megawatts of generation can be guaranteed. This strength ensures a rapid energy supply in the event of natural disasters and can contribute to the startup of thermal power plants.
