With the certainty of being able to do whatever they set out to do in agricultural production, the Matanzas Universal Products Marketing and Services Company continues to bet on food autonomy, judging by publications on the social network Facebook.

A recent post from the entity reflects the commitment put into the seedbeds by managers and workers, a dedication shared with the balance of products that go directly to the table of the workers’ canteen and to the homes of those who work there.

«Fruit of our seedbed, today a new harvest begins. Universal Matanzas does not stop, always fighting to maintain its self-consumption», it is assured in the profile of the Vanguardia Nacional collective for several consecutive years.

Every day the menu of the workers’ dining room includes salads, thanks to the 10 beds with tomato, chard, cucumber, and lettuce. In 2024 we always consumed vianda and in this 2025, as promised, the intention is to grow in areas and plant much more crops, said General Director Fredesvinda Lopez Gonzalez.

The intention, she explained, is to continue using the land surrounding the company’s headquarters and make the most of it, from efficient management to increase yields to products that, due to their proximity to where they are processed, arrive fresh, typical of the so-called zero kilometer.

Regardless of the significant savings of money for freight and other benefits, Fredesvinda refers with emotion to the incorporation of the workers to the care of the areas and harvesting of crops, through the alternative of changing labor every Friday, a contribution to which 27 of the retirees are integrated.

In several moments she has valued as an important phase of the way towards the food sovereignty is the sale to employees of Universal Matanzas, at prices much lower than those marketed by the state agricultural markets network.

He insisted that with self-consumption it is not a question of avoiding the state responsibility of the canteens, but to retake the alternative of self-consumption as an important reserve to increase and improve what is put on the worker’s table.

The mission of Universal Matanzas is to commercialize in a wholesale way consumer and intermediate goods and the provision of services, all with high quality that satisfy the needs and expectations of the customers.
