«The selection of Dr. Vento Canosa, historian of Matanzas, the Athens of Cuba, with more than 30 published books,» stated Efrahim Pérez Izquierdo, director of the Provincial Center for Books and Literature, in an interview. «It was a unanimous decision by the Union of Writers and Artists and the local branch of the Association of Historians.»

The director also announced the main events that will continue those held this month. «In December, we will celebrate the presentation of the Matanzas City Foundation Award, postponed due to the arbovirus outbreak, but ready to strengthen the relationship between the public and important writers.
«We will also be carrying out the ‘Reading History’ program in conjunction with UNHIC (National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba).»
Regarding the upcoming year, 2026, Pérez Izquierdo shared his enthusiasm, highlighting that literary events will begin in January, filling the city with verses and books.
«Yes, in January we will hold the International Poetry Festival ‘Poetic Bridges,’ in which prominent writers from the country and guests from other nations will participate, along with writers from Matanzas.»
«In February, the Great Festival of Letters in Cuba will begin in Havana, where our publishing houses and writers will be featured, with a special focus on the work of our Commander-in-Chief and on our extensive publications on Russian literature over the years.»
The people of Matanzas are already preparing for the Book Fair in March.
It will undoubtedly be a spiritual delight, with Vento Canosa as a distinguished guest, chosen by the Organizing Committee of this premier event for reading in a region that deservedly aspires to the UNESCO Creative City of Literature designation.
