Pedro Betancourt: memories of a patriot.

May 19th marked nine decades since the death of Pedro Estanislao Betancourt Dávalos, the prestigious doctor-surgeon who today not only gave his name to the former municipality of Corral Falso de Macuriges, but also became Major General of the Liberation Army, Governor and Senator of the province of Matanzas and a distinguished patriot of the town of Betancourt.
Julián Rogelio Álvarez López, historian of Matanzas, tells us about the life and work of this Mambí, while the yoke of Spain was falling on the largest of the Antilles.
